SteelSeries 5HV2 Review
Hello all used to do reviews here quite frequently
back in the CoD2 days but it gets kinda hard once you don't have cash
for more hardware right?
Anyways today we'll be taking a look at the SteelSeries 5H v2, the specs for it can be found here:
http://www.steelseries.com/us/products/ ... nformation
Products from Steelseries can be found at their official website or slightly discounted at various online retailers, my personal choice would be Newegg.com
Intro
The Steelseries 5HV2 headset has been available to the public since 2008, before that I was using the good old 5H which was an excellent headset for its time though the V2's have a more comfortable design. Alrighty well lets gets this review on the road.

That's some pretty impressive stuff, especially the USB sound card because I don't know how many of you have X-Fi sound cards but today most people don't even waste their money on that due to the quickly improving quality of on-board sound. The USB sound processing does take some strain off of your processor which helps especially for those of you who might be pushing your rig to its limits with new games such as Battlefield: Bad Company 2. So if you're still waiting to upgrade your rig or you're just a real FPS/RAM whore SteelSeries came through for you with this feature.
Comfort
Can you say MOST COMFORTABLE HEADSET EVER? Seriously ladie and gentlemen if you have ever own one of those horrible headsets that you need to take off every 30 minutes to give your ears a break you MUST try these. The Steelseries 5HV2's are the single most comfortable headset I've ever owned which is saying a lot because I'm always looking for the best and I have tried out many many headsets from Logtiech to Sennheiser to Razer and this shits on all of them when it comes to comfort.
Durability
These things can take a lot of abuse though I'd never recommend doing it on purpose. If any of you tend to have the same nerd rage I do though you've thrown peripherals before and my previous set of 5HV2's had been thrown MANY MANY times. Guess what it still lasted me 2 years. My 5H's took a metric ton of abuse when I played CoD2 and guess what they still work today. The only issue is that for some reason the right side earpiece may at some point in your headsets life stop working. It happened to me with my last pair and it sucks because I have no idea what happened. It seems to be a relatively rare issue and personally for the value of this headset I dont mind buying a new one every 2-4 years but it is kind of annoying.
Overall
Excellent product without a doubt just keep the box in case you have the same issue I did and RMA it on the SteelSeries website. The combination of sound quality and comfort all for approximately $104 with shipping simply cannot be beat, at least not by anything in this price range.
Leave any feedback at the bottom of the page, more reviews to come and a big thank you to SteelSeries for sponsoring Area 51.
