Purple Cobras Sign with Area51Gaming.com

We have been in the market to pickup another successful Team Fortress 2 team to fill the spot recently vacated by the former Muscle Milk and Moolians after their 0-16 season in ESEA-Invite. The search had been one that was ongoing and we wanted to make sure we had a team that we could count on to stick with us for a few seasons, regardless of their win record. CB from Muscle Milk and Moolians recommended the Purple Cobras to me and introduced me to unF, and the rest is history. I had a chance to sit down with the guys and pick their brains for some information, and here is what they had to say.

Can you introduce yourself as a team, previous experience, how you started and made the move to invite?

unF: We are formerly know as the Purple Cobras. Our current roster is Fabri and cringe on scout, StPatrick and SureShot on soldier, Mythikal on medic, and myself on demo. Our core members (Fabri, cringe, StPatrick and myself) have been playing together since the beginning of season 6. We made it into the playoffs where we came in third. After the season we picked up SureShot and Mythikal to round out our roster. We were informed sometime in the off-season that we were going to be moved into invite which we were very excited about and look forward to competing with the best.

Can you introduce yourself individually, some of your gaming experience, teams, etc?

Hi, I am SureShot and I am the pocket soldier for our team.  Most of my gaming experience include quake and its mods such as the original Team Fortress during the mplayer days.  I've played a bit of medal of honor as well as some rts's/mmo's.  Team Fortress 2 is arguably my first game involving league play and I've been at it on and off for about 2 years now.

My name is unf, I've been around since pre-beta and played for makeshift and Eximius in the early days of tf2 in cevo-p. I played soldier and demo from the beginning, and after season one of cevo I quit tf2 to play Lineage 2 with some really old friends of mine. This was in 07/08. In late 09 I briefly came back to play for a mid team in season 4 of esea and in pre-season 6 I decided to take tf2 back up seriously which is when I found cringe, fabri, and stpatrick. We've been together since.

What class do you play in game?

SureShot: While I can play most of the classes to a decent degree, I play soldier competitively.  I wouldn't mind playing as a starter Heavy, but my teammates would probably give me looks of disapproval.

unF: I play demoman exclusively

Why do you play that class in game?

SureShot: Soldier tends to fit my style of play, preferred use of the rocket launcher in the quake days, and my preference towards soldier/demoman in TF1.  I personally disliked the demoman transition from TF1 to TF2 (primarily how pipebombs were changed into stickies), so I stuck with soldier.

unF: It's the most fun, and I enjoy sticky jumping

(unF sure is a man of many words)

What are your favorite TF2 maps?

SureShot: Stock maps for the most part or any decent 5 point push map.  Not a big fan of King of the Hill type maps.

unF: I would say, my favorite is viaduct and granary

(unF with another yearbook save the world answer :D)

What brings you to Area51Gaming.com?

SureShot: Respected in the community, LAN support, Unf said to tag up, so I did.

unF: I talked with and looked at a lot of different sponsors, but area 51 was the one that stood out as the right choice. I'm excited to be part of an organization that is as respected and looked up to as area 51.

Was it a struggle to do well and move to play at an invite level?

SureShot: I've played with a few teams in previous seasons at the invite level so I'm just hoping to use my experience to help my teammates.

unF: Most of season 6 was a bit shaky because we went through so many different lineups and changed classes every week. However, even with a shaky roster we managed to do well, and once we finalized our roster we became even better. Especially after season 6 when we picked up SureShot.

What teams do you foresee being tough competition in your first invite season?

SureShot: The teams that have the least changes to roster are what I perceive to be the toughest competition.  The others are unpredictable, no matter how they look at first, and it's difficult to tell until the season starts.

unF: Obviously the big dogs like EG, coL, eMg, and Blight will be the toughest, but I think. I will be our close rivals because they have something to prove as well and I think they will give it all they have in every match.

How are you going to prepare for this season?

SureShot: Practice, with an increased focus on improving weaknesses rather than simply scrimming.

unF: Lots of scrimming, and focusing on teamwork and communication.

What are you looking forward to the most in this invite season?

SureShot: LAN, measuring how we can do as a new team in invite, and seeing how other teams do with roster changes/performances.

unF: Playing matches. Good teams are 10x more fun to play against than lower teams.

Any LAN attendance planned, outside of ESEA-I LAN of course ;)?

SureShot: If there are any worthwhile ones and A51 is providing, sure :)

unF: I am not aware of any LANs coming up in the near future, but if one is happening it would be nice to get some LAN experience as a team.

Thank you guys for your time, its great to have you all on board and I can't wait to watch you play. I don't play the game, and pretty much have no idea what goes on, but sure love to watch the game. Welcome to the Area51Gaming.com family, we're glad to have you here!
