Poland wins WCG gold yet AGAiN

While the USA representatives (Evil Geniuses and Turmoil) had some impressive group play they just couldn't find the will to win bracket play. Team EG fell to mTw two games to one while Turmoil also fell to Millenium two games to one knocking both USA representatives out of the running for WCG gold, however the event was still awesome.

The grand finals for WCG 2009 put arguably the most dominant team of the year (Fnatic) against the the 2006 WCG Champion ( former Pentagram) AGAiN. This match up was quite an entertaining one for both spectators in Chengdu, China and watching via HLTV (which peaked out at over 12,000 spectators) as we got to see NEO and f0rest face off for all the marbles.

The finals began on de_nuke, where AGAiN made use of playing counter-terrorist side first and won the first half 9-6. Fnatic, being down after the first half responded pushing themselves to a 9-6 second half score pushing the match into overtime. After 4 overtimes AGAIN finally sealed the deal with a final score of 31-29.

With Fnatic loosing the first map they seemed to come roaring out of the gate on de_train starting on terrorist side putting up a 7-1 score before AGAiN could really find an answer. AGAiN finally managed to mount a comeback and finish out the half only down 7-8. With the momentum they built up in the first half AGAiN set the score to 15-10 waiting on match point. Fnatic was not going out without a fight winning the next two rounds before the former WCG champions could reclaim their gold and a nice $35.000.

Congratulations to AGAiN for winning the WCG 2009 Grand Finals in Chengdu, China as it is well deserved. Look out in 2010 as the WCG comes back to the states as Los Angeles is the host city for the WCG 2010 Grand Finals.
