Gillz returns from DEVASTATION

After two days of gaming in Phoenix Arizona Gillz returns from DEVASTATION LAN and I had a chance to sit down for a little bit and speak with him. Gillz competed with some of the best in Quake Live at this event, and while sick, he still gave it his best shot pulling off a top 5 finish. Gillz had a lot to say about the event, so we'll get started right into it:

How well did you do at the event?

Unfortunately I didn't place as well as I wanted to, I placed 4th for Quake Live.

How do you think you performed individually?

I performed very poorly, for a number of reasons. I hadn't played when I arrived Thursday, and it didn't start until Saturday, so there was a lot of time where I could of been playing but didn't. I also wasn't feeling well at all that day, I wasn't fully ill, but I could of been feeling a lot better.

How well was the tournament run?

For Quake, it's bitter sweet really. There was a LOT of technical issues, the people there did the best they could. Eventually they couldn't use the LAN server so we had to play online, which didn't work well either. There was a lot of ping spikes, packet loss, etc. It got fixed eventually through Saturday, but I was still having some issues with it. Not as much as before, but it was still there. None of the matches got streamed, which is a disappointment, but it's a fighting game tournament, so it's understandable. The rest of the tournaments were run very well, Quake sadly didn't get much attention. I wasn't expecting much in the beginning. The DEVASTATION guys did the best they could, and they also asked us our advice for how to run it better, which is appreciated :)

Did you notice some things you could work on?

Kind of, I get very very nervous at LAN, but I've known that for a long time. I'm still trying to find ways to work on it, I have a few I need to test out :). I'm also toying with increasing my sensitivity and altering my mouse accel.

What was the tournament structure, double elim, round robin?

 Double elimination bracket.

What were the tournament prize winnings?

I am not sure, it was dependent on signups I believe, I cannot answer that because I do not know :)

What was the turn out like?

It could of been a lot better, there was over 10 signed up, but I think less than that showed up, I'm honestly not even sure. Notable players there were Rapha, Fake_ID, Mojo, and Slasher.

What did you do in your free time at the LAN?

Watch all the other games of course! I love most games in e-sports, so it was nice to spectate games like SSF4, Tekken 6, MvC2, TvC2, SF2 HDR, and some DJ Hero of course :)

What was your favorite part of DEVASTATION?

The spectating :). DJWheat, SirScoots, Fishstix, GunRun, PotatoHead, Swoozie, and everyone there did an AWESOME job broadcasting the event, true e-sports heroes in my opinion. I don't even want to think about how that event would of been without them.

And, in true fashion, any last words before we close this out?

I'd like to thank Area 51 for sending me to DEVASTATION, if it wasn't for them I wouldn't be where I am right now, and wouldn't have the experience I do. Also thanks to DEVASTATION for running the event, and thanks to everyone else that i met up with and hung out with :)
