Gearing up for QuakeCon
Area 51 Gaming is attending QuakeCon with intentions of competing in both dueling, and the Capture the Flag tournaments. In preparation for the tournaments our QuakeLive team has been playing non-stop almost as if receiving no sleep for days on end. They are competing in three pre-quakecon tournaments with top ten seedings in all three. In the Online Sports Entertainment league (www.oseleague.pro) they've competed against x_X (Lights out) a 7th seed team and beat them 3-0 on qzctf10 and 5-2 qzctf7 when Area51.QL was seeded 10th going into the event. Their next match in the OSE league is yet to be announced as other teams have not played yet in the brackets. National Gaming League`s $600 road to Quakecon (www.nationalgamingleague.org) Tournament Area51.QL is ranked 10th, they played 23rd seed FITH (Fire in the Hole) beating them on 4-0 on qzctf2 and 8-0 on qzctf7. Their next match in the National gaming League's $600 road to Quakecon tournament is against ]KM[ (clan Knightmare) with a to-be-decided match time. During the Quakenight (www.quakenight.com) tournament where Area51.QL is ranked 9th they faced-off against 5th seed KL (Kitten`s Litter) and posted 7-3 on qzctf7, and 7-1 on qzctf2. Their next match is scheduled for this coming Wednesday at 9pm eastern the number 1 seed Evil Genius` (aka FoJ).
For a brief bio on the players that will be representing Area51Gaming at Quakecon please see below:
Shizem was in one of the top Quake 4 CTF teams in america in Team Rage. Shizem is still considered one of the fastest flag carriers to ever play the game in Quake 4. Before Quake 4 he was in clan B Negative with players like wn and cdogg. Later these players formed Team Rage in QuakeLive and at last year`s Quakecon they took 2nd place and a 4,000 dollar check home. Shizem is still one of the most inventive ctf flag runners in North America.
cpy_ or ceppy has been playing ctf since Quake 2. He started off playing on Mplayer`s community of gamers with a clan called Vengeance Eternal. He really enjoyed the ctf scene so much he thought of creating a web page that dealt only with the Quake 3 CTF scene. With his friends bAs and Lun they created a community website called ctfzone.net. Later, this would become a CTF team with some superstar names. For a long time ceppy had been attending Quakecons. In 2004 he saw how desperately they needed help with their tournaments and he decided to join the tournament admin staff in 2005. He went on to be one of the lead admins at Quakecon until 2008 when differences in opinion caused him to leave. That year he was also the lead Quake 3 admin at ESWC. Recently he joined Fires of Judaism, one of the best Quake Live CTF teams at the moment. He wanted to branch out though and seek other options, so he joined Area 51 gaming to play at Quakecon 2009 and beyond.
Ice` or IceLord has been playing CTF for 10 years. He has been on some of the greatest Quake 3 CTF teams ever. Clan names like 44 tru force, Rise n Fall, and Where`s the Defence all come to mind. He took a short hiatus from the scene when Quake 4 came out, but now he is back with a vengeance to rain down hell on all that enter the middle of the map! We are glad to have him on our team, and can`t wait to see what he can do on lan.
n1kon has been playing CTF since 2005 and is the newest of the group. He made his stamp in the insta scene staying at #1 on numerous servers. He was prevelant in the Quake 4 CTF scene, and he carried his skill over into Quake Live. After playing many pubs with him and having him lock down defence, it was an easy choice for who would be our flag d. He was a backup for Billy Mays Dayz in last year`s Quakecon event. They went on to take #1 in the tournament and squashed all the competition, never losing a map.
Also attending the LAN will be Managers Nick `Ares` Sowers, and Scott `Skitch`Beckman who will essentially be standing behind everyone yelling at them, telling how well they did, and when they do well smacking them on the back so hard their headphones nearly fall off.
Gillz` and Boots will be attending the LAN playing in the Dueling mode, representing us with their one-on-one skill, which in my personal opinion is a true test of skills. Ninja will also be attending the festivities to ogle at all the event has to offer.
This is where Cpy wanted me to elaborate on how wonderful the CTF team is, but in doing so I`d be lying. ;)
The END.
