CSPromod Hits Beta 1.04

Yep, that's right I said their is a update to the Counter-Strike Professional Modification (CSPromod). For those of you that have not really been following or know what CSPromod is it is basically Counter-Strike 1.6 game play with Counter-Strike:Source graphics.

The project itself was first started in 2006 with an attempt to bring a fully-customizable version of Counter-Strike 1.6 to the Source Engine for the purposes of growing competitive play and broadcast spectatorship. The first initial beta release of CSPromod was in October 2007 and represented about nine months of work for the parties involved. The first public release showed great promise but yet was a disaster as their were numerous bugs that had yet to be worked out. In late October the CSPromod development team started releasing updated beta patches that fixed many of the issues that were brought up by the community but it still seemed the community was not all that impressed with CSPromod. With that said the CSPromod developers decided they would do private testing until as they said " we have something exciting to share with the community".

Yesterday at about 1PM est CSPromod Beta 1.04 was released and after following the developer blogs and video introductions of the map redesigns and such I can say I am honestly impressed with the progress mad thus far to the mod, though I have not had a chance to try it out for myself yet.

I got a chance to ask James "jame^s" O`Connor (Leader of the Counter-Strike 1.6 team) a few questions about his thoughts on CSPromod.

What are your initial reactions to the new CSPromod Beta (Version 1.04)?
I was optimistic but still disappointed because it is so far away from where it needs to be still. They have a bunch of adjustments left to do to the maps such as flashes still can go over long a wall on dust2. It needs work.

How far do you personally think this beta version has come since beta version 1.03?
If that was the beta they released about a year ago...LEAPS AND BOUNDS. It doesn't even resemble the game I played before.

Do you see CSP being played competitively anytime soon?
If they increase the crouch to strafe movement speeds and adjust the maps to exactly like 1.6's they could have themselves a really good game. I would say it is going to take 1 to 2 more updates and we'll have ourselves a great game.
