Counter-Strike: Source to Aurora for LANAPALOOZA

Area51Gaming will be busy this weekend, as you saw in an earlier article Gillz is headed to DEVASTATION and our Counter-Strike: Source team is headed for Aurora Canada for LANAPALOOZA. Daemos and his team have been very active online and in leagues but I managed to find some time to sit down with him and pick his brain about the upcoming even and here is what he had to say:

Daemos with your activity in the community and blog posts on the site I think we can forgo the introduction so we'll get right into it.

What is Lanapalooza?

Its a lan just outside Toronto, in a city called Aurora and its happened every year for the last 4 years. It always pulls at least 14 teams, one year had 24.  There;s always pretty decent competition but whats important to us is that its quite close to a lot of us and as it is our first lan of the team's career, it's going to be  a great experience and is going to really make us better through the entire event.

What kind of tournaments and prize pots they offering?

They calculate the prize pot based off the numbers of team entering, and they always have several tournaments running  including 1.6, cod mw2, and several others. There's a bunch of free entry tournaments and extra fun events thrown in too it runs all night.

How is the Counter-Strike: Source scene in Canada?

Well every year the biggest lan in North America happens in Montreal, Canada and is called ETS.  This most recent ETS pulled almost 40 teams, and every year the number has increased.  I would say the source scene in Canada is very strong and it has been shown through that event.

You guys have been playing a lot lately, between matches and scrims, how much time a week you guys devoting to preparing for LANAPALOOZA?

Well we practice 5 hours a night Sunday to Thursday, and for the last few weeks its been more about the lan, getting all the maps that were going to play covered. We're going into it to win, nothing less.

Has online play in leagues helped you identify some mistakes or deficiencies in your play style or strats?

Yes, every match we play in an online league we learn something about our strats. each team tries to counter us in their own ways and having played every map in both leagues has really helped us iron out a lot of edges.

You guys seem to be spear heading the competition in league play online, can you give us the run down on your new team of guys?

sure, ill go through them one at a time
waxxt:  waxxt is our primary awp, hes a very smart player whose very cautious and certain in almost every move he makes. His play style makes him able to kill people a lot and die very little.

Brundle-Fly: Brundle-fly is one of our riflers, i would say he has the best aim on the team and I haven't seen anyone he cant headshot.  He has a more aggressive play style and likes to catch people off-guard with random pushes for a quick kill and falling back to hold as a team against a smaller number.

Jules: Jules is another great rifler who is a great assistant player, there to make sure no one dies by themselves because he can trade off every time.  Jules is also great for holding specific spots because hes got an amazing spray.

Digital: Digital is our third rifler, he has great teamwork ability and works greatly with his teammates.  He's also a very smart player who has been around a very long time and knows a lot of the little things that are a part of this game.  Hes a great counter-flasher, spot holder, and his communications are fantastic.

Well I've played this game for so long its like a second home to me.  I use an awp or a rifle depending on the situation, or the map, or just what i feel I'm going to be able to play well with.  I feel I'm good at holding spots, I'm good at getting entry picks, and I make sure to trade kills if my teammate dies anywhere near me. I also have devoted a lot of time in my counter-strike career to making strats that I haven't really had the ability now that I have a great team that can pull them off successfully.

Have you personally done anything to prepare for LANAPALOOZA both in and out of game?

I feel that the best way I can prepare for lanapalooza is to come on and play my best every night in every practice so our team can reach its maximum potential for this event. And that's what I've been doing, and I know my team has been doing their part too.

What is the next big event you guys are looking to attend?

We're hoping to attend E-Frag in Fishersville, Virginia on July 23rd.  It's shaping up to be the next big source lan of the season.  I would expect at least 25 teams to show up to it as well.

Thanks for your time Daemos, and final thoughts or comments?

Just that it's an honor to play under a great organization like Area 51 Gaming, and we can't wait to represent it this weekend!

Daemos will be at the event updating the Area51Gaming.com Facebook with updates as they become available. Be sure to check it out to keep up on the action!
