Area51.cs WCG 2010 Canada Champions
Today marks the start of the LanETS/WCG 2010 Canada event for both the
Area51 Gaming Canadian Counter-Strike 1.6 and Counter-Strike:Source
teams. The event is being held in Montreal, Canada and will host 400
players competing in tournaments such as Counter-Strike 1.6.
Counter-Strike: Source, Team Fortress 2, StarCraft 2, Quake Live, Forza
Motorsport 3, FIFA10, and Guitar Hero 5. The eight tournaments being played will net a total of $10,000 in cash prizes as well as four spots to represent Canada in the 2010 WCG Grand Finals later this month in Los Angeles.
The Counter-Strike 1.6 tournament features twelve teams battling it out for the WCG Grand Finals spot plus $1,500. The twelve teams will start out playing in group play which will determine seeding.The entire field of teams will then be placed into a best of three, single elimination bracket until four teams remain to play again on Sunday for the right to represent Canada at the 2010 WCG Grand Finals. The most notable teams attending this event include Sway Gaming, NoPression, and our very own Area51.cs.
While the Counter-Strike:Source tournament does not include a WCG Grand Finals spot as it is not an official WCG game title it does however feature a $3,500 prize pot. The tournament will feature twenty teams including reigning LanETS champions Dynamic and our very own Area51.css
