Help Us Search For ET! Seti@Home Project Win Prizes!

The Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing (BOINC) is an open source middlewear system for volunteer and grid computing. It was originally developed to support the SETI@home project before it became useful as a platform for other distributed applications in areas as diverse as mathematics, medicine, molecular biology, climatology, and astrophysics. The intent of BOINC  is to make it possible for researchers to tap into the enormous Processing power of personal computers around the world.

Area 51 Gaming has decided to start it's own Official distributed computing team for all BOINC "Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing" projects. These projects are already racking up a decent amount of points but we need many more Volunteers! We are kindly welcoming everyone in the Area 51 community friends, fans and gamers alike to join us in the search for ET using the Seti@home application screensaver. In addition to searching for intelligent radio signals the BOINC manager also allows for many other powerful tools to help mankind with everything from Astrophysics and Biology to
finding Cures for serious diseases such as HIV, Malaria, Cancer, andAlzheimer's. Projects run even faster and with newer GPU's like NVIDIA's Cuda Core.

BOINC is easy to install, setup and get going in just minutes. Joining the Area51 team project is easy. First Signup for an account.  Download the BOINC manager and install. Now simply open the BOINC manager, click the view tab and set it to the advanced view mode. Next add the project your want to run first add Seti@home, On the projects tab click and highlight your Seti@home project then at the bottom left of the manager you will see the Your Team button type in the team name "" without quotes in the team search field and join the team! Our team name is BOINC wide which spans across all present and future projects so feel free to join as many as your computer can handle! Your account settings and computing preferences can also be edited from the BOINC website

We will be handing out Official Area51 T-Shirts and other prizes like Steelseries mouse pads to team members who can reach a million or more Seti@home project credits!. Additionally if you join our other teams and accumulate credits for other applications you will be eligible for other prizes for your computational contributions.

If you really like looking for aliens and the Seti project be sure to check out the Seti Live project where you can become a citizen scientist and analyze and mark signal images from live radio telescope data!

Thanks for reading everyone!! We hope you all take interest and join us in the race!
