Area51 Gaming Wins ESWC North American Qualifier

This past weekend Area51 Gaming's counter-strike:global offensive team battled it out against four other teams for a chance to represent North America at the 2012 ESWC Grand Finals. The Plantronics GameCom North American path to the Electronics Sports World Cup took place at PAX Prime in Seattle, Washington from August 31 – September 2. The final four teams (two invited and two qualified) beat out 350 other teams in the largest online qualifer for a single event to date in eSports history. Area51 would walk out of the event victorious defeating both Hold Mouse1 and Team Dynamic thus securing themselves the all important free trip to Paris,France in early November to represent North America in the ESWC Grand Finals.

Area51 Gaming would first face off against Hold Mouse1 which was dubbed the "COD" team due to have playings from Call of Duty 4, Battlefield 3, and Brink. Area51 would defeate Hold Mouse1 on both de_dust2 and de_nuke 16-12 securing their finals spot verus Team Dynamic. The match up versus dynamic would be quite a back and forth hard fought battle on both de_train and de_dust2. Area51 would win the series 2-0 both in 16-12 and 16-10 fashions to become the ESWC North American Champions.

The road to victory was not an easy one, several times while talking to the team Ares and I asked them "Do you think you can beat Dynamic?" they would always responded with "I don't know" full well knowing Dynamic knew what they were doing. Dynamic had a proven history in gaming, and more importantly in Counter-Stirke: Source which as we all know is what CS:GO is based on. Sean Gares (sgares) said in an interview that Dazed was "the mind behind all the strats" and that "source strats translate really well in this game ... he gives me everything I need to call." This was pivotal to our team which was comprised mostly of Counter-Strike 1.6 players, although many have been quoted as saying CS:GO "feels like 1.6", that is matter to be discussed otherwise.

You can watch a VOD of both the Hold Mouse1 as well as the Team Dynamic match via this link. Also we have gone ahead and created a gallery from the teams time in seattle that you can view here as well.

Area51 Gaming would like to thank all of our sponsors and promotional partners that continue to support us and that made this trip more than just an opportunity, a success: Ubisoft, Killer Gaming, SteelSeries, Gigabyte USA, End of Reality, and Hurricane Host. Last but not least, thank you so much to our devoted fans for their continued support!
