51 squeaks by ue with two OT wins

Area 51 squeaked by Underestimated in two overtime matches on Dust 2 and Lite. In both matches the Canadian team was down, but managed to come back on both maps to advance to the second round of the upper bracket.

On Dust 2, both teams had very strong CT sides. The match ebbed and flowed with momentum changing hands frequently. Both teams managed 8-7 halves to bring the game to overtime, with 51 coming back from a 15-12 defecit to send the match to OT. It took a 3-0 T side in the second OT to break the stalemate. Stellar play from both n0swal and Lalonde held off Underestimated and secured the Canadian team the win. Garret "Grt" Bambrough explained how his team managed to adapt to Underestimated.

"We did a good job of alternating mid-game and switching up our strategies to fit what they were doing," said Bambrough. "Our defaults weren't working, our strats weren't working, so we just completely switched it up; we got in and started winning all our rounds. When we got to overtime, we just threw up some new stuff that'd they've never seen and it ended up working."

Lite was very similar to Dust 2. After a 10-5 first half in favor of UE, 51 found themselves in a rather large hole. The second half score quickly approached game point for UE, but tenacious play from the Canadians kept them alive. UE took the score to 6-5, but 51 managed to take the match to OT by winning out with a series of famas buys and smart play to recover from their poor money situation. Overtime was definitely all 51, and a three frag round by Lalonde secured the match for Area51.

"On Lite we got off to another bad start. We lost our T side 10-5 which is usually our better side," said Bambrough. "On CT we got off to a real bad start as well and then we had to alter and change mid-game. We did some things we never did before that worked perfectly; we adapted very well this match. I'm really proud of the boys for that."

Area 51 goes on to play Evil Geniuses in the second round of the Upper Bracket.
