Hockey Posted by dazeD on 03/03/2010
Born and raised in the South East of the US, I was never very fond of hockey. I had only played it once or twice in my gym class as a kid, and even then we played on a regular floor. With that said, I was brought up liking more popular sports like football, basketball, etc.

I had never really watched the Olympics prior to this year. I can say after watching the Olympics, Hockey definitely jumped out at me more than any other sport that was presented. Even though the US lost to Canada and had to settle for the Silver, I felt that I would continue watching the NHL (which I didn't even know came on regular cable) and possibly develop an interest for the sport.

Ever since the Olympics ended this Sunday, I found myself continuously reading after thoughts of the Hockey Tournament. It turns out that I really do enjoy watching the sport, and am even considering trying out for my school's hockey team for my senior year.

Anyone else feel like the Olympics may have caused some interest in some sports that you don't normally watch / play?

Being a Canuck, I grew up with hockey, so all I can say is, it's about time! For me, hockey was it. That final game was good. I don't care so much who wins so long as it's a good game. Aside from hockey, I really enjoyed snowboard/ski-cross. That was some entertaining stuff. Speed skating is kinda fun, too.

I was amazed at how many different sports there actually was during the olympics. I hadn't even heard of a number of them.

hockey is a great sport, played it all my life. skiii is right, playoffs are the best time of the year. 2-3 games every night for the first couple of weeks and all of them are intense. some of the other events at the olympics were pretty cool too, i liked the snowboard and ski-cross events especially.

I think it really has helped hockey. The sport has been on the uptake since the lockout though. What is important is that people tie in to a certain team, make it "their team" (someone told me its the same thing with nascar) it really would be nice to see the sport get bigger, soccer and football just bore the piss out of me. GO WINGS!

Ive played hockey for about 8 years now. Definately a fun sport to watch, even if you dont play it. The olympics helped American hockey so much even though they ended up with the Silver, alot of people recognized that they could have won that game, even without all the superstars team Canada had. If you want to watch some good hockey, watch the playoffs coming up in about a month. Prediction. Caps hoist the cup
